How to report a crime
According to the Fayetteville Police Deptartment, reporting procedures vary, depending on the incident. However, here are the basics:
Officer involved incidents: When an officer is sent to a crime, he is required to fill out a report at the scene.
- Minor incidents: Incidents such as traffic accidents or small crimes that were not investigated can be completed in person at the Police Department, 467 Hay St. This is also the case for crimes such as fraud.
- Online reports: Copies of of incident reports are available to the public through the Fayetteville Police Department's Web site, bethebadge.com.
- Traffic accident reports: An official traffic accident report can be obtained from the state's DMV Web site at https://edmv-dr.dot.state.nc.us/DrivingRecords/DrivingRecords Forms may also be picked up in person at the police department. However the entire report (witness information, suspect information and supplemental reports and statements) is not public record and is not distributed to the public.
