START A COMMUNITY WATCH PROGRAM
1. Find a location for a meeting: a neighbor’s home or yard, a recreation center, a school or church.
2. Call the Crime Prevention Unit at 433-1033. They’ll send you an application packet.
3. Decide when you’ll meet. A crime prevention specialist needs to attend the first meeting and should be notified two weeks in advance.
4. Tell your neighbors about the meeting through phone calls, knocking on doors, distributing pamphlets or posting signs.
5. At the first meeting, the crime prevention specialist will bring the crime statistics for your neighborhood and explain the guidelines for the group.
6. As the group continues to meet, you can decide what your priorities are and discuss programs available through the police department.
